Sueños Music festival 2022 – Behind the Scenes of Chicago’s First Latin Festival with Micah

When Sueños Music Festival made its debut in Grant Park, it marked a turning point for Latin music in the United States — and I was there to witness history from the inside. As a Belizean artist, content creator, and member of the production team, being part of the very first Sueños was more than a job — it was a moment of representation, growth, and pride.

Working under C3 Presents, I served as part of the VIP and Platinum concierge team, helping manage the guest experience at the inaugural event. Our job was to assist festivalgoers, escort talent, and make sure everything ran smoothly in the artist and guest areas. From coordinating with sponsors to supporting logistics and hospitality, it was an unforgettable experience watching a brand-new festival come alive in downtown Chicago.

A Dream Brought to Life: The First Sueños Chicago 2022

The Sueños Music Festival — which means “dreams” in Spanish — was the first major Latin music festival ever held in Chicago, and it delivered in every way possible. Organized by C3 Presents and the creators of Baja Beach Fest, Sueños brought a new rhythm to Grant Park, one that celebrated culture, unity, and Latin excellence.

The 2022 lineup was packed with icons: J Balvin, Ozuna, Wisin & Yandel, Farruko, Myke Towers, El Alfa, Natanael Cano, and Tokischa, among others. The crowd — more than 80,000 strong — filled Grant Park with energy, dancing, and pride.

The festival operated with just one main stage, but it never felt small. Each performance flowed seamlessly, and every artist delivered a powerhouse set that represented the diversity of Latin sounds — from reggaeton and Latin trap to dembow and corridos.

Representing Belize at a Historic Festival

As a Belizean woman working at the first Sueños, I felt a deep sense of pride. Latin America is vast and colorful, and Belize’s influence often gets overlooked. Being part of a team that helped make the first Latin-only festival in Chicago a success meant I was representing not just myself but also an entire community that loves music, dance, and unity.

Between shifts, I captured behind-the-scenes content for my “Out N Bad” series — showing fans what goes into producing a major music festival. I filmed moments at the artist village, shared footage of the stunning Grant Park skyline, and highlighted the excitement of the crowd.

Building a Festival, One Detail at a Time

Working behind the scenes meant being part of everything — from setup and guest services to production coordination. We handled guest upgrades, wristband management, and sponsor support, ensuring the VIP and Platinum areas reflected the luxury and passion that Sueños promised.

I also loved how C3 allowed team members to take breaks during their shifts to support their favorite acts. I used that time to film content, connect with brand activations, and truly enjoy the festival as both a worker and a creator.

Some of the brand partners brought incredible activations to the park, including Dunkin’ Donuts, Liquid Death, and a premium liquor activation within the VIP area. These installations gave fans and creators the chance to interact with brands in fresh, creative ways — something I’ve come to appreciate through my growing experience at festivals.

The Cultural Impact of Sueños Chicago

The success of the 2022 debut proved that Latin music deserves its own massive stage in the Midwest. From day one, Sueños Chicago became a cornerstone of the city’s festival scene. It gave Chicago’s Latino community — one of the largest in the country — a weekend of pride and celebration.

For me, the event symbolized more than music. It represented the unity of Latin and Caribbean heritage, and how diversity in music can bring people together across cultures. Watching the performances, seeing the flags, and hearing Spanish, Creole, and English blend together reminded me of the power of representation.

A Belizean Dream Turned Reality

Being part of the first-ever Sueños Chicago changed the way I see live events and my own artistry. I learned that the same energy I put into performing and creating is what it takes to build a festival — teamwork, dedication, and passion. One day, I hope to return not as a staff member, but as a performer bringing Belizean vibes to that stage.

Sueños taught me that dreams are not just to be watched — they’re meant to be built, lived, and shared.
